GOD'S OFFICIAL, Declan O'Rourke et al. Play Roscommon Arts Center in May/June

The Roscommon Arts Center of Roscommon, Ireland has announced its calendar for May and June 2010. 

On May 19 at 8pm, veteran Irish actor Mick Lally will star alongside George McMahon (Fair City's 'Mondo') and Edwin Mullane in GOD'S OFFICIAL, a comedy about two heartbroken soccer fans whose team suffers because of the controversial decision of a hapless referee.  The two decide to take matters into their own hands, so they track down the referee, kidnap him and hold him hostage. What follows are hilarious and unexpected consequences as their half-baked scheme goes increasingly awry.

On May 20 at 3pm, as part of the Bealtaine Festival, the Center will present a free screening of 'Dean Spanley' starring the legendary Peter O'Toole.  The film is the story of Fisk, a publisher exasperated by his cantankerous father (O'Toole). Fisk Senior has little time for his son; however, when the pair embark on a journey that eventually allows the old man to find his heart.

On May 22 at 8pm, Meteor Award nominee Declan O'Rourke, creator of hits like 'Big Bad Beautiful World,' 'Whatever Happens,' and 'Galileo,' will perform in concert. O'Rourke has played support to Snow Patrol, The Divine Comedy and The Cardigans on stages like Wembley, London, The Point and The Olympia. Also in the world of music, the Roscommon County Youth Orchestra will playing on May 29 at 3pm.

On May 22, artist Padraig Cunnigham's exhibition 'Lost and Found' will open at The Gallery in the Arts Centre; Cunningham will be present from 6:00 to 7:30. The exhibition runs until June 24 and is open throughout the Center's hours.

On May 27 at 8pm, music group Guidewires, composed of Padraig Rynne, Tola Custy, and Paul McSherry, will perform in the galley kitchen of Strokestown Park House as part of The Reel Thing, a series of traditional music nights. Performing together for seven years, Guidewires mixes new and old Irish tunes, using unique arrangements. Other traditional music nights this season include Rig the Jig on June 11 and Tiarnan O'Duinnchinn and Laoise Kelly on June 24.

On June 9 at 8pm, The Last Laugh Comedy Club will present Andrew Maxwell of The Panel.  Maxwell performed his audacious comedy act at Roscommon in 2009 to popular acclaim.  Tickets are on sale now.
