Excitement is growing as word from the rehearsals for this year's Summer Blockbuster at Cork's Everyman Theatre, "Dancing at Lughnasa" is that this production is shaping up to be an innovative and fresh take on the Friel classic.

The show will run 2nd August to Saturday 26th August (excluding Sundays and Mondays) at 7.30 p.m.

Following the success of Lovers (2015), and The Factory Girls (2016), also directed by the theatre's Artistic Director, Julie Kelleher, the Everyman continues its tradition of producing top-quality theatre. Kelleher has assembled an incredible cast to bring Friel's touching story to the stage and the stellar cast includes Eva Bartley, Jeanne O'Connor, Rosie O'Regan, Martha Dunlea, Barry McKiernan, Gary Murphy and Jack Healy.

"Dancing at Lughnasa" is a rich, and deeply moving, account of the lives of the five Mundy sisters, and their ailing older brother. They are brought to life through the eyes of Michael, son of the youngest sister, Christina. Set in rural Ireland in 1936, the play takes an affectionate look at this family and the difficult circumstances in which the women, in particular, attempt to hold things together.

The show presented by the Everyman, has a superb creative team working alongside director, Julie Kelleher. Cathy Walsh is the choreographer, Deirdre Dwyer has worked on set and costume design and Irene Buckley is responsible for the sound design.
