Friday 23rd September from 5.30pm All Welcome Roscommon Arts Centre With all the doom and gloom around and purse strings being as tight as they are here at Roscommon Arts centre we are delighted to offer you a completely FREEevening of events for your entertainment on Friday 23rd September as part of the nationwide events to celebrate Culture Night 2011.Come along on Friday 23rd September to celebrate Culture Night 2011 where arts centre and venues all around the country open their doors and invite everyone in for the evening-Free of charge! As part of Roscommon Arts Centre's programme for the evening you are invited to come along to the opening of ‘The Sea Inside', an exhibition of work by artist Gavin Hogg, where you can wander around the gallery, enjoy a complimentary glass of wine, view the work and meet the artist. Gavin will also be on hand to give a very informal talk about his work and how he creates his art. The exhibition opening is from 5.30pm-7.00pm. As always, entry to the gallery is completely free of charge.
Following the opening why not come along to a FREE concert in the auditorium from 7pm-8pm. Take a seat as local seanchaí Vincent Pierse regales you with tales of yesteryear. Patsy Hanly (flute), John Wynne (flute and tin whistle) and singer Pauline Hanly will join in the evenings celebrations to showcase the talents of some of the finest traditional musicians the county has to offer. Bring along your instruments or indeed your voice and feel free to join in during this free hour-long concert. All are welcome.

Exhibition Opening Gavin Hogg | ‘The Sea Inside'Gavin Hogg is a painter and printmaker. A new exhibition of his recent works titled ‘The Sea Inside' opens at The Gallery in Roscommon Arts Centre next Friday 23rd September 5.30pm - 7pm. All are welcome. In this exhibition he will present a selection of work created during the last two years. Hogg's work varies in format from large scale pieces combining print, painting and collage to smaller works in a single medium. The work itself is deeply concerned with how each piece is visually structured, the use of pattern and the role of the unconscious in the artist's creative process.
Gavin Hogg studied painting in Limerick School of Art & Design and Birmingham Institute of Art, England, completing a Masters Degree in Art in 1988. He has exhibited widely in Ireland and abroad, being represented in many National Collections. In 1993 he was a double award winner in EV+A, and in 2010 received a Bursary from the Arts Council. Gavin has a studio Limerick City where he is exclusively focused on the development of his work. This exhibition continues until Thursday 27th October and cal be viewed during centre opening hours.
