'On Sequences' is an exciting new show bringing together composer/sound designer Peter Power and percussionist Alex Petcu, who will present an evening of sound, music and performance at CIT Cork School of Music on Thursday, March 14.
Bringing together elements from each of their backgrounds to create an immersive and engaging experience, the evening will feature classics from the percussion repertoire performed by Petcu and compositions by Power alongside new material and spirited improvisations.
An Irish musician of Romanian origin, Alex Petcu is well-known to the Cork audience. A percussionist of the finest calibre, Alex is a regular guest of the West Cork Chamber Music Festival, Kilruddery House and National Concert Hall, and has performed with both RTE orchestras, the Irish Chamber Orchestra, Irish Baroque and Ulster Orchestra.
Alex regularly collaborates with modern composers and enjoys being involved in the creation of new music using limitless possibilities of such instruments as gongs, bell plates, temple bowls, cymbals and crotales. His most recent projects include the Abbey Theatre's production of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, collaborations with a CSM graduate Sam Perkin (in 2017, COS successfully presented the world premiere of Perkin's Waves: 365 Variations on a Gesture featuring Petcu) and composer Tom Lane in a children's show A Most Peculiar Wintry Thing.
Cork-based Peter Power is a composer and sound designer from Waterford, and also a director of Eat My Noise, a multi-genre audio duo with David Duffy. Peter is specifically interested in using music to tell stories in a non-linear way and is well known for his collaborations with various musicians. As a composer and music supervisor, Peter was also behind ProdiJIG: The Revolution at Cork Opera House.
The concert will take place in the Curtis Auditorium, CIT Cork School of Music, on Thursday 14 March at 7:30 pm.
