Ireland's Circus Gerbola is teaming up with local street theatre group, Bui Bolg this Saturday, April 17 from 10 am-12 noon for World Circus Day at the Wexford Racecourse. Bui Bolg, which also runs a weekly Youth group, will be treated to a once in a lifetime opportunity behind the scenes with the circus! The Youth group, which specialises in giant puppetry, drama, stiltwalking and juggling, will be given a chance to try out the aerial silks and the giant trampoline.
Bui Bolg have grown from being a small street theatre company to now producing and designing for a wide range of clients from St Patrick's day parades to Rock festivals. Bui Bolg have brought their unique vision and sense of humour to all sorts of events.
Circus Gerbola is a family run Irish circus directed by husband and wife team Tara & Mikey Gerbola. Both directors grew up in the circus world and with circus in their blood, it's not surprising that in 2002 they took to the road. In 2006, they bought a bigger Big Top that is tastefully decorated with velvet drapes, theatre style seating and creative lighting all aimed at providing a new, vibrant, intimate circus experience. Circus Gerbola has begun to undertake new working practices and artistic development which involves collaborating with artists, musicians, schools & groups from local communities who will have the opportunity to work and perform with a team of circus artists. Having worked with Bui Bolg in the past, the circus is delighted to welcome back the teenagers from the Youth Group. Circus Gerbola is known for quality family entertainment and won the AOIFE Best Festival Entertainment Award in 2009. The circus generates a number of jobs for Irish people as well as employing specialist performers from all over the world.
Their larger than life giant puppets have appeared at the Chingay parade Singapore; the largest Chinese New year parade in Asia. More locally however, they produced the street carnival for the recent celebrations of Enniscorthy. Additionally, they are the designers for the iconic stone entrance way to the Oxegen Music festival in Punchestown.
