The Coca-Cola Cinemagic International Film and Television Festival for Young People in association with AIB Group is back in Dublin from 5th - 12th May! This year's programme is jam packed with screenings, masterclasses with film and television industry guests, workshops for schools, a cross border jury panel and lots more. Cinemagic is delighted to welcome so many industry professionals to host practical and fun MASTERCLASSES this year where they will share their expertise, knowledge and experience. Always one of the most popular elements of the Festival early application is advised. CINEMAGIC JURY - One of the unique aspects of Cinemagic is that it is one of the few festivals whose winners are selected by juries made up solely of young people. The winners will be chosen in two categories - Best Short Film for a Children's Audience (as judged by a jury of 10-14 year olds) and Best Short Film for a Teenage Audience (as judged by a jury of 15-18 year olds). Young Film and TV enthusiasts who would like to apply to be on this cross-border jury should see www.cinemagic.ie for details. The Festival will also once more lead the search for YOUNG CRITIC OF THE YEAR. As always workshops are a key element of the 2010 programme and are run for PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS. This year the fun packed workshops that are on offer for primary shools include The Art of Shadow Play with Frank Quinn, Read and draw the Hugglewug Way, Storyboarding for Animation with Straandlooper, Let's Get Animated - Claymation Workshop, Story Shorts, Early years with Emma Coogan, Once Upon A Time ... storytelling, Irish History Live - The Ice Age! + Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs and a comic making workshop. There are lots of fun workshops on offer for secondary schools too including Climate Changes and Your Eco-Footprint, Anime Discussion + Screening: Ponyo, Pitch That Brief; The Irish Animation Industry - a brief history and double feature: All Dogs Go To Heaven & The Secret of Kells, The Film Review with Film Ireland and Film Classification workshop with IFCO and Our Moon, Moon Stories, Moon News with Deirdre Kelleghan + Screening: Moon.
Once again the Festival will host two GALA SCREENINGS to open and close the Festival. A special preview of Tooth Fairy will open the Festival on 5th May and another preview, of From Time to Time will bring the Festival to a close on 12th May. In between there is a HOST OF MOVIES to sit back and enjoy! This year the festival films are divided into different categories: From Page to Screen - The Iron Giant, The Fantastic Mr Fox, The Secret of Nimh, Where the Wild Things Are, Oliver Twist and The Borrowers. Documentary Films - The Cove, Turtle: The Incredible Journey World of Animation - Spirit of the Forest; Azur and Asmar: The Prince's Quest and Sunshine Barry and the Disco Worms. Tim Burton, A Retrospective - Sleepy Hollow, Corpse Bride, The Nightmare Before Christmas 3D Family Favourites -Bugsy Malone, Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
The Festival will offer young enthusiasts an insight into filmmaking through two special events There will be a special screening of A Shine of Rainbows and the Star of the film John Bell and casting directors Ros & John Hubbard will be ‘In Conversation' & answering questions from the audience after the screening. There is also a chance to revisit the first episode of series 1 and the final episode of series 2 of the fantasy period drama Merlin based on the King Arthur legend. Cast & crew members will be taking time out from filming series 3 to talk about the making of the hit BBC show.Department of Education and Science: "The Department of Education and Science is delighted to continue its support for the Dublin Cinemagic Film and Television Festival in 2010. Since 2008, the festival has provided a unique opportunity for children and young people to gain an insight into the worlds of film-making and broadcasting and to meet with industry professionals through participation in masterclasses and workshops. It is clear from the high levels of interest and attendance at events and screenings that schools and youth groups from Ireland and Northern Ireland continue to enthusiastically engage with the Cinemagic Festival. The cross-border jury, young film critic competitions and cross border film camp will also give young people opportunities to interact with their peers from across the island of Ireland and to share their interest and opinions on films produced specifically for children's and teenage audiences. The Department also welcomes the further expansion of the Festival in 2010 to include a new US-Ireland dimension to its programme."

This year the Festival is also working in partnership with Dublin City Council Arts Office. During the Festival workshops will be run which have been designed specifically for young people aged 15 - 18 yrs old. Screenagers (a practical, fun, challenging course with an emphasis on developing story and character) and Special Effects Make-up with the MakeupFabLicious Academy. Also in partnership with the Dublin City Council Arts Office the Festival will present Young Urban Arts which will support 50 young people to participate in the Festival Masterclass Programme which will take place in the Burlington Hotel and are open to youth projects in the city's neighbourhoods"Dublin City Council is delighted to work in partnership with the 2010 Cinemagic International Film and Television Festival for Young People. There are lots of events taking place during the Festival including Cinemagic Stars where budding actors, dancers and singers aged between 13- 18 will spend 2 days in an intensive masterclass creating an original stage production based on a well-known musical that they will perform to family and friends!
