The cast is announced for the premiere of Ian Hislop and Nick Newman's new satirical play TRIAL BY LAUGHTER, which is inspired by extraordinary real-life events.
Based on Hislop and Newman's original, critically acclaimed BBC Radio 4 drama, TRIAL BY LAUGHTER tells the story of a forgotten hero of free speech, William Hone, a bookseller, publisher and satirist who was at the centre of one of the most remarkable legal cases of its time.
The cast includes Helena Antoniou (Lady Hertford), Philippe Edwards (Sidmouth), Jeremy Lloyd (Prince Regent), Peter Losasso (Cruickshank), Nicholas Murchie (Justice Abbott/Duke of York), Joseph Prowen (Hone), Eva Scott (Lady Conyngham/Sarah), Dan Tetsell (Lord Ellenborough).
Ian Hislop and Nick Newman return to The Watermill following the success of their play, The Wipers Times, which premiered at the theatre in 2016 before touring and transferring to the West End.
TRIAL BY LAUGHTER is directed by Caroline Leslie. It is designed by Dora Schweitzer with lighting design by Matt Leventhall and sound by Steve Mayo. It is produced by The Watermill Theatre and Trademark Touring.
Following its run at The Watermill Theatre, TRIAL BY LAUGHTER tours to the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford, The New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich, the Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham and Theatre Royal, Brighton. Tour dates and booking information below.
The Wipers Times, also produced by The Watermill Theatre and Trademark Touring, tours again from 28 August until 1 December 2018, transferring for a second time to the West End in October 2018.
