The Everyman, in association with Cork Midsummer Festival and Project Arts Centre, will present the Irish première of Futureproof, a magical play about identity and the capacities of the human spirit, in Cork and Dublin this month.

Futureproof reunites writer Lynda Radley and director Tom Creed, in their old stomping ground, Cork, to give this magical play a stunning new production in its Irish première, featuring an emsemble of Ireland's most accomplished actors: Gerard Byrne, Amy Conroy, Michael Glenn Murphy, Gillian McCarthy, Gina Moxley and Julie Sharkey. The initial cast announcement included Schull native Ayoola Smart as Serena the mermaid; however, due to an unfortunate accident, Ayoola will no longer be able to take the role, and Karen McCartney will now take her place.

During its award-winning first run in Scotland in 2011, Futureproof asks us to think about the struggle for self-hood and bodily autonomy, a theme which continues to have relevance in Ireland today.

See it first during the Cork Midsummer Festival at the Everyman: Previews 8pm, Tuesday 13th to Thursday 15th June, show running from Friday 16th, Saturday 17th, Tuesday 20th to Saturday 24th June at 8pm; then the travelling weirdoes visit the Project Arts Centre from Tuesday 27th June - Saturday 1st July at 7.30pm. Tickets on sale now, book early to avoid disappointment. www.everymancork.com / www.projectartscentre.ie.
