Macnas, Ireland's pre-eminent street arts and spectacle company, are helping this very special Boy Explorer (who is 8 years old and 15ft high) meet with and gather ideas from children in a number of schools across the country.

This young boy plans to meet up with other children from around the country because he needs their help: "About two and a half weeks ago I had an amazing idea about how to make the country we live in a much better place but I woke up and I could not remember it - I could not come up with one brilliant idea so I am going to go out and find some".

The boy explorer will be accompanied by his friends; dreamers, schemers, inventors, poets and imagineers as they set out across the country. When all the ideas from all the children have been heard, the boy explorer will walk to Dublin with all of their ideas and post a children's metaphorical manifesto of brilliant ideas at the GPO.

While staying in Galway the boy met some friends in Macnas who were only delighted to help the boy on his journey; "My friends in Macnas have fixed the strap on my satchel and made me some new shoes because they know I have a long walk to do around Ireland".

The boy explorer and his friends start their big walk on Tuesday the 1st of February, visiting a school in Galway. "I am really excited to meet up with the children in my home town in Galway", said the boy. His friends in Macnas are planning a send off for him as he sets off on his long walk around the provinces. They will wave him goodbye on Monday the 7th of February at 5pm from the Macnas workshop in Fisheries Field in Galway.

Noeline Kavanagh (Artistic Director, Macnas) who is a friend of the boy explorer says, "He is a very adventurous boy and it is refreshing to see this energy especially when a lot of the grown ups, particularly those with the responsibility of looking after the country have no brilliant ideas whatsoever. We really wish the boy explorer and all of his young friends the best with his children's manifesto of brilliant ideas and if you see him on his travels make sure and say hello and wish him well".

For 25 years, Macnas has been at the centre of creating outdoor spectacle, street art and site responsive theatre in Ireland and overseas. In collaboration with visual artists, composers, performers, designers and pyrotechnics, Macnas makes work that is narrative led and visually dynamic. The audience is at the core of the company's work. The company strives to make innovative high quality art, providing powerful ways of connecting with our audience in an interactive, immediate and original way. Macnas' work is unique; it incorporates high quality work where the professional and the participatory collaborate; where audience and artist meet to create exhilarating theatrical experiences and encounters.
