The Confirmation Suit by Brendan Behan adapted for stage by Peter Sheridan

Dates: July 24th - Aug 5th, 7.30pm

Tickets: €16 (€12.50 concession)

About the Show:

Brendan Behan is twelve years old and about to make his confirmation. It is a coming of age moment for all Catholic boys, full of excitement and promise. That's how it is for Brendan until he learns that his suit is to be made by an elderly seamstress, Miss McCann, who lives upstairs in their tenement house.

Miss McCann specialises in making shrouds for the dead. As Brendan's father Stephen remarks,"people are only dying to get into one of her creations." It is not a good omen. Brendan is terrified that his suit will be anything but fashionable and he lives in dread of what he may be forced to wear on his big day.

As the story unfolds, the young Brendan becomes more and more agitated. In the end we know that something has to give. The question is whether Brendan will hold it all together or implode.

Written in 1962, just two short years before his own passing, the Confirmation Suit is filled with humour, insight and pathos. It is a story that still resonates today, more than fifty years after its composition.

This is a stage adaptation not to be missed.

Adapted for the stage by Peter Sheridan
Performed by Gary Cooke (Après-Match, I Keano)

Happy Birthday Jacob by Michael Marshall

Dates: August 15th - 26th, 7.30pm

Tickets: €16 (€12.50 concession)

About the Show:
Back by popular demand! Happy Birthday Jacob is the story of two brothers, Jacob and Lucas, who, after being abandoned at a young age, have been forced to develop a life which consists of secrecy and strict routine. The story exists between the father leaving and the foreboding imminence of his return. That is until Mary, their mother, arrives abruptly, which slowly severs the bond between the two brothers. Lucas's fantastical notions of a family reunited directly clashes with Jacob's embodied reality of rejection and abandonment. Jacob with the help of Terry a neighbouring girl try to keep this constructed family afloat while Lucas drifts towards an idea that he has only been able fantasise. Time is ticking closer to Jacob's 18th birthday, a day in which everything that has been built must fall.

Director: Caroline FitzGerald
