Chris Ridley will be giving a Timpani masterclass at 2:30pm. Chris has held the top two posts in the timpani world, playing with the orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan for four years before taking up the position of Timpanist at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in 2008. All this before he was 30! He has performed under the baton of conductors Pappano, Muti, Maazel, Barenboim, Boulez, Jansons & Nelsons. Chris lectures in timpani at Trinity Laban Conservatoire and the Royal College of Music.
At 1pm we will have a Jazz drumming masterclass with Sebastiaan de Krom. Originally from the Netherlands, Sebastiaan studied in Berklee, winning the Buddy Rich award in 1995. During his time in America he performed with some of the major jazz heavyweights such as Herbie Hancock, John Scofield, Ron Carter and Dave Holland. Since relocating to the UK in 2000 he was Jamie Cullum's drummer for 8 years, and currently plays with all the top UK jazz artists, such as Jacqui Dankworth, Guy Barker & Ray Gelato. He teaches at BIMM London and Leeds College of Music.
Starting off the day with a bang at 12:30pm CIT CSM percussion lecturers Stephen Kelly, Tomas Gall & Fionn O'Ceallchain will be demonstrating the rhythms of Cuban percussion & some handy tips to improve your drumming!
At 4:30pm there will be a short concert featuring Staff and Students of the CSM, including an Irish premiere of "Paukerkrieg" featuring timpanist Oliver Taylor of the RTE Concert Orchestra, and a tribute to the great John Bonham of Led Zeppelin featuring the CSM Senior Percussion Ensemble, and much more!
