Last night, December 16, 2022, Lisa McNulty (Producing Artistic Director), Michael Sag (Managing Director), and Rebecca Martinez (Associate Artistic Director), welcomed theater artists and friends for a holiday party and celebration of WP Theater's 44th season.

This past year, the WP Theater announced the launch of The WP Space Program, an initiative to provide affordable producing options for the artistic community by offering subsidized theater space at WP Theater's home at 76th and Broadway. Additionally, The WP Theater announced A Seat of One's Own Campaign!, a naming opportunity to have a theater seat named in your honor. WP supporters, staff, and friends toasted to the start of the 45th season.

WP Theater is the nation's oldest and largest theater company dedicated to developing, producing, and promoting the work of Women+ at every stage of their careers. Founded in 1978 by Julia Miles as Women's Project Theater, WP Theater has earned acclaim as a home for Women+ theater makers, historically marginalized in the field, to hone their craft while becoming leaders, change makers, and advocates in the industry.

WP Theater has produced more than 600 Mainstage productions, and developmental projects; and published 11 anthologies of plays by Women+ artists. WP Theater is making a difference in the artistic landscape of New York and beyond, and they continue to forge forward by offering these artists a platform to develop and present their stories.

Associate Artistic Director Rebecca Martinez will direct the next WP Theater show called Sancocho. Rebecca Martínez is a director, writer, producer, choreographer, and facilitator living in New York City. Martinez is a 2017 fellow of The Drama League's Directors Project.

Sancocho is written by Christin Eve Cato and presented by Latinx Playwrights Circle WP Theater & The Sol Project. The play is a tale of two Puerto Rican sisters and the tension between them during their father's declining health.
