Before attending Wednesday afternoon’s matinee performances,  nearly 155 New York City public high school students and chaperones gathered in Times  Square to commemorate the milestone achieved of Broadway Bridges® welcoming 100,000  students to Broadway since its inception in 2017.

As the largest theatre education partnership in the history of New York City, Broadway Bridges is a program of The Broadway League, in partnership with NYC Public Schools™ and the  United Federation of Teachers, and has been providing opportunities for New York City public high school students to attend a Broadway show before graduation. Support for the  program also comes from the New York City Council.

“Broadway Bridges began six years ago with the commitment to ensure that every New York  City public high school student be given the opportunity to attend a Broadway show before graduation. To celebrate this milestone today of welcoming 100,000 students and chaperones  to our theatres is most gratifying as it signifies our continued goal of having Broadway be more  accessible to our youth,” said Charlotte St. Martin, President of The Broadway League.  “We thank our partners at NYC Public Schools and the United Federation of Teachers for  helping to make Broadway Bridges possible as we welcome new audiences to Broadway.”

Broadway Bridges offers NYC public schools in all five boroughs with $10 Broadway tickets for  their tenth-grade students. As the largest theatre education partnership in the history of New

York City, a total of 436 New York City public high schools have been served by the program,  with representation from each of the 51 city council districts. To date, more than 2,000  teachers have registered for Broadway Bridges and 100,000 students and chaperones have  attended a Broadway show. The tickets purchased are based on availability and are timed to  coincide with the demands of the school calendar.

The fall cycle of Broadway Bridges is currently underway with 20 participating Broadway  shows. More information is available at BroadwayBridges.org.
