Veteran theatrical general manager Tamar Climan, has launched a new venture as an independent producer. Ms. Climan co-founded, and for 20 years co-ran, Richards/Climan, Inc. along with David Richards. She is currently working, alongside lead producer Hal Luftig, as Executive Producer on the new Broadway production of Children of a Lesser God. She will also act as E.P. on Heart of Rock and Roll, set to premiere at The Old Globe in San Diego, and Consulting Producer on Jagged Little Pill, which will open at The American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) in Cambridge.
"My long tenure as a G.M. has allowed me to work side-by-side with many of the greatest artists in our industry," Ms. Climan said in a statement. "I look forward to using all of that experience to inspire and support great writers, directors, designers and actors within this community in an art form I so love. As for David, he was the greatest partner I could have asked for, and I am very happy that I'll get to keep working with him in this new capacity."
Together with her partner at Richards/Climan, Inc., Ms. Climan managed more than eighty Broadway, Off-Broadway and touring shows, including Anastasia, Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella, Cabaret, Fiddler on the Roof, Anything Goes (Tony Award® for Best Revival of a Musical), The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess (Tony Award® for Best Revival of a Musical), It's Only a Play, Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill, The Glass Menagerie, You Can't Take It With You, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (Tony Award® for Best Revival of a Play), All the Way (Tony Award® for Best Play), Twelve Angry Men, August: Osage County (Tony Award® for Best Play), Bullets Over Broadway, Gore Vidal's The Best Man, Race, Blithe Spirit, and many more.
