The platform allows users to discover new opportunities and forge meaningful connections within the vibrant theatre community.
The Stage Door Foundation has launched The Stage Door Network, an online portal for theatre professionals and resource providers. With a focus on inclusivity and empowerment, Stage Door Network serves as a dynamic platform for individuals and companies to discover new opportunities and forge meaningful connections within the vibrant theatre community, both within the Broadway community and in Regional theatres across the globe.
At the heart of Stage Door Network lies its mission to facilitate seamless connections between theatre professionals and creative projects. Leveraging state-of-the-art technology, Stage Door Network introduces revolutionary job-matching capabilities, ensuring every talent finds their perfect fit. From performers to creatives, backstage crew to administrators, casting, talent agents, and producers, Stage Door Network welcomes every individual and every organization to create comprehensive profiles showcasing their expertise, aspirations, and availability. It links them to matching opportunities posted in the Job Board.
One of Stage Door Network's defining features is its commitment to accessibility. Profiles are free to create, allowing users to showcase their work through images, videos, and other materials without limitations or hidden fees. They may also self-identify their skills and unique backgrounds to ensure matching with projects that meet their creative goals.
Additionally, users can promote their additional creative services, whether it's offering masterclasses, voice lessons, or other specialized skills, further enriching the community's collaborative spirit.
Stage Door Network introduces Quick Match Technology enabling users to post alerts for specific needs and find instant solutions easily. Whether seeking a reader for a self-tape audition or a last-minute replacement for a performance, Stage Door Network streamlines the process, eliminating negotiation hurdles and fostering efficient collaboration.
Stage Door Network encourages users to authentically self-identify aspects of their heritage and background, career priorities, and/or distinct talents, empowering individuals to showcase their unique attributes. Whether highlighting specific skills, cultural backgrounds, or experiences, users can present a comprehensive representation of themselves. This inclusive approach enables users to easily search for professionals with diverse skill sets and backgrounds, fostering success through genuine representation and diversity within their companies.
The network's inspiration came from the President of the Stage Door Network, Jeff Whiting, from his personal experience as a director and choreographer. Whiting also created another iconic software supporting the theatrical community, Stage Write Software, which is used by over 100,000 users worldwide.
“We've all done it,” says Whiting. “You need a last-minute replacement (‘where are my bass/baritones at?') or a resource with a unique background, so you post online hoping one of your friends sees the post and suggests their friend who might be available for the job.
“And it works! I've found the perfect stage manager and brilliant designers that way. But what if we didn't leave it up to chance? What if there was a place where all my contacts and all of my contacts' contacts were linked together - in a network of sorts - to help streamline the process and not leave it up to chance? Stage Door Network is that place.
“There's no hearts, no counting clicks, no likes here,” says Whiting. “Just genuine networking tools designed to connect the community - from Stage Door to Stage Door.
Over the past year of development, Whiting has partnered closely with Nicole Johnson and The Harriet Tubman Effect to help test the technology. “It could be very easy to create a job-matching platform that creates more harm for people of color,” says Johnson. “For that reason, we've worked to ensure that Stage Door's platform doesn't tokenize people of color or place anyone in harmful workplaces.”
The CEO of the Company, Mike Wheeler, harbors a profound passion for theatre and aspires to channel this ardor with his business acumen toward benefiting the theatrical community.
