R & R Productions will present a public reading of Dick Whittington Cums to Hell's Kitchen, a new play written in the style of British Pantomime by award winning playwright Robert K. Benson on Sunday December 16th at 8pm in The Green Room at New World Stages.
Dick Whittington Cums to Hell's Kitchen is an American adaptation of the traditional British Pantomimes that are performed in England around Christmas. Traditional "Pantos" incorporate song, dance, buffoonery, slapstick, in-jokes, audience participation, and mild innuendo- though in this case MAJOR innuendo! R & R Productions aims to create an American tale that subverts the traditional Christmas stories and morality stories told during the Holiday Season that can serve as an ongoing New York City tradition.
The cast features Sam Given (Rebel Rebel in Concert, The Boys from Syracuse), Lily Ali-Oshatz (The Extraordinary Fall of the Four-Legged Woman), Holly Chou (The Big Sick, Younger) Alex Moreno (Jessica Jones, High Maintenance) Robert K.Benson (Red Dead Redemption II, The Blacklist: Redemption), Rachel McPhee (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Jessica Jones) Rachel Ingram & Nick Kohn (Avenue Q, Jessica Jones), and is directed by David Charles (SCOWL, Chasing the Ghost) .

Dick Whittington Cums to Hell's Kitchen is based on the British legend of Dick Whittington who came to London to seek his fame and fortune, believing the streets were paved with gold. In our story, Dick makes his way from a small town in the Middle West of Nowhere to New York City to seek his fame and fortune and lands in Hell's Kitchen in the 90's. "These streets aren't paved with gold, honey!" Along the way he acquires a cat and salt of the earth Drag Queen landlady who help guide his journey. When his new home threatens to become overrun with Rats (both in animal and human form), Dick and his Cat fight to save their sanctuary, where the streets are lined with porn!
