Lynch will be succeeded by Nolen Bivens, a retired Army brigadier general and former board member who had led the organization since December.
Robert L. Lynch has agreed to retire as President and Chief Executive of Americans For the Arts, effective immediately, The New York Times reports. He has held this position for over three decades.
As BroadwayWorld reported, in December Lynch stepped aside after concerns were brought to light regarding the organization's equity and diversity practices and workplace management.
Current and former employees of the organization, as well as advisory council members, voiced criticism about the organization's handling of diversity, equity, and inclusion. This was coupled with complaints of sexual harassment, and of a negative management culture. People called for Lynch to resign, as they believed he was unresponsive to the problems at hand.
Lynch has been on paid leave since then.
"Bob has dedicated his life to the arts, in particular increasing access to the arts for everyone, and we know he will continue to be a passionate advocate for many years to come," read a statement from the board.
Lynch will be succeeded by Nolen Bivens, a retired Army brigadier general and former board member who had led the organization since December.
