National Alliance for Musical Theatre (Betsy King Militello, Executive Director) is now accepting submissions for the 35th Annual FESTIVAL OF NEW MUSICALS, to be held in New York City on Thursday, October 26 and Friday, October 27, 2023.

Again, this year, writers can submit their musical without a professional endorsement. Additionally, there is no application fee for submissions made by Tuesday, December 20th, 2022 (11:59pm ET). The late deadline is Tuesday, January 10th, 2023 (11:59pm EST). The application for the 35th Annual FESTIVAL OF NEW MUSICALS can be found at namt.org/festapp.

"We are happy to continue an open-door policy for anyone who would like to apply to the Festival of New Musicals," says Frankie Dailey, New Works Director. "NAMT wants it to be known that our Festival can be a home for any writer or composer, and we have space for shows at all stages of development." He adds, "In our 34th year, we broke records with a staggering 480 submissions. It's clear that writers are hungry for opportunities like this and we're glad to make the application available to as many artists as possible."

The FESTIVAL OF NEW MUSICALS is the cornerstone of NAMT's mission to assure the advancement of the musical theatre field. Each year, the Festival presents eight shows before an audience of over 700 industry professionals, highlighting quality new works with a wide range of subjects and forms. With an explicit commitment to nurturing composers, lyricists and book writers of all identities and backgrounds, the Festival seeks to expand the musical theatre repertoire and advance the musical theatre art form. The Festival has featured over 500 writers, and as a direct result, over 85% of them have seen further development of their musicals, found agents, secured licensing agreements, or been commissioned. NAMT assumes the costs of producing and marketing the Festival, handles all administration and logistics, and takes no royalty stake in future productions. This is intended to give participating writers a creative development experience free from financial and administrative burdens.

The National Alliance for Musical Theatre, founded in 1985, is a not-for-profit organization serving the musical theatre community. Its mission is to be a catalyst for nurturing musical theatre development, production, innovation, and collaboration. Their 219 members, located throughout 33 states and abroad, are some of the leading producers of musical theatre in the world and include theatres, developmental organizations, higher education groups, presenting companies and independent producers. Among the almost 300 musicals launched by NAMT's FESTIVAL OF NEW MUSICALS are Benny & Joon, Come From Away, Darling Grenadine, The Drowsy Chaperone, Gun & Powder, HONK!, Interstate, It Shoulda Been You, Lempicka, Ordinary Days, Striking 12 and Thoroughly Modern Millie.
