Marathon, a new musical featuring a book & lyrics by Kara Cutruzzula (Letters From May), music by Kristoffer Bjarke (Letters From May, Tomorrow), and direction by Tyrone L. Robinson (This Bitter Earth - InterAct Theatre Company, Chicken & Biscuits - Bristol Riverside Theatre, Un{H}armed short film), will receive two private industry readings on Friday December 6, 2024. The by-invitation-only readings will be held at Open Jar Studios (1601 Broadway, New York, NY 10019). 

Marathon is a journey of endurance, hope, and finding connection over 26.2 miles.

Marathon features Tony and Grammy Award nominee Liz Callaway as June, joined by Thom Sesma (Dead Outlaw), Leana Rae Concepcion (Merrily We Roll Along), Stephanie Bacastow (A Little Night Music), and TRACY SALLOWS (The Audience). Music direction by Simone Allen. Mix and Match Productions will serve as General Managers.

Kara Cutruzzula is a writer, editor, and creator whose work spans theater, journalism, and books. As a playwright and musical theater lyricist, her work has been presented at the Bruno Walter Auditorium at Lincoln Center, Merkin Hall, Cherry Lane Theater, and the Wild Project, with pieces developed by Theatre Now New York, Nylon Fusion Theater Company, Primary Stages ESPA, and the New Musicals Lab at the Ferguson Center. Letters From May, her first musical written with composer Kristoffer Bjarke, is licensed by MTI/Theatre Now New York. She is a member of the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Advanced Songwriting and Bookwriting Workshops and the Dramatists Guild. Her writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, TIME, and Newsweek. Kara is the author of the bestselling motivational journal series Do It For Yourself and writes the newsletter “Brass Ring Daily,” dubbed "a life coach in your inbox" by Vanity Fair. 

Kristoffer Bjarke is a composer and pianist originally from Seattle. His most recent productions include Tomorrow (New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center / Jacksonville University) and Letters From May (Theatre Now New York). He is an alumnus of the BMI Lehman Engel Advanced Musical Theatre Workshop. His music for film has been heard in the Seattle International Film Festival, Chicago International Film Festival, and Rod Serling Film Festival, among others. 

Currently performing in the Broadway production of Swept Away (NY Times Critic's Pick), Tyrone L. Robinson directs for stage and film. Select directing credits include This Bitter Earth (InterAct Theatre Company), Chicken & Biscuits (Bristol Riverside Theatre), Ain't Misbehavin' (The REV Theatre), pay no worship (world premiere play - InterAct Theatre Company), Letters From May (Theatre NOW Soundbites Festival of New Musicals), Little Shop of Horrors (concept/pre-production; Kyli Rae, director - Garden Theatre), Love, Uncensored (Triad Theatre Concert featuring Joshua Henry and starring Wilkie Ferguson III), TYA musical Owen & Mzee (Theatre Row & tour), White Ally (reading at Bristol Riverside Theatre), and the short film Un{H}armed, which screened at film festivals nationwide including the Big Muddy Film Festival, RKDS Film Festival, Atlanta Short Film Festival, Hudson NY Short Film Festival, Harlem International Film Festival, and New York Shorts Film Festival. Associate directing credits include Sunset Boulevard starring Stephanie J. Block and Derek Klena (Sammi Cannold, director) at The Kennedy Center Center Stage, Private Gomer Jones (Sammi Cannold, director) at NAMT Festival of New Musicals, and Private Gomer Jones (Goodspeed Musicals Workshop). Tyrone frequently volunteers with BC/EFA and Broadway Serves. He's an alumnus of the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Writing Workshop, did graduate studies in Directing for the Musical Theatre Stage (Penn State), and earned his MFA from NYU Tisch School of the Arts.
