The SFSG workshop is designed to equip all participants with a powerful set of narrative tools that enable, amplify, and implement responsible storytelling.
In a unique non-profit/for-profit partnership, Broadway Advocacy Coalition (BAC) and Level Forward (LF) are partnering to launch a new joint workshop: Storytelling for Social Good (SFSG). Previewed exclusively at Tribeca Film 2022, the SFSG workshop is designed to equip all participants with a powerful set of narrative tools that enable, amplify, and implement responsible storytelling throughout entertainment, media, and beyond.
With a growing understanding of the power that stories have on audience satisfaction, customer perceptions, and cultural norms, and with increasing urgency to debunk dominant narratives, LF and BAC are joining forces in response to the swell of demand for storytelling that is accountable for its impact. The SFSG workshop gives participants tangible questions, tools, and activities to help center social and cultural implications through every step of the storytelling process. The 90 minute to three hour workshop is designed for creatives, producers, organizational teams and leaders, and students.
SFSG was developed by BAC's Co-Director of Programming Dria Brown and LF's Programming Manager & Host - and 2020 BAC Artivism Fellow - Andrea Ambam.
"Now, more than ever, we are seeing the necessity of cultivating one's capacity to become a socially responsible storyteller," said BAC's Co-Director of Programming Dria Brown. "Telling and sharing stories is part of our everyday ritual. SFSG challenges the notion that commercial success must supersede intentional storytelling and offers its participants an opportunity to consider their role in creating new cultural scripts that recenter the often erased stories on the margins."
"Level Forward is so excited to be officially joining forces with Broadway Advocacy Coalition," said Level Forward's Andrea Ambam. "The responses to this workshop - even its a pilot - have been so affirming and illuminate the necessity of generative spaces like SFSG where folks can come together and name the change they wish to see in the world. At its core, this workshop emboldens participants to recognize themselves as people with the power to tell stories and shape culture - and equips them to do so under the mission of social good."
