LEGONG AND BARONG BANGKAL DANCE (WAKSIRSA STORY) Continues At Sanggar Suara Guna Kanti

The group Sanggar Suara Guna Kanti presents LEGONG AND BARONG BANGKAL DANCE (WAKSIRSA STORY) at various nights throughout the year, starting at 7 p.m.

The dance tells about the Goddess Durga/ white Rangda who comes down to the earth with her follower (Sisya) named Waksirsa (Pig).

Pendet or Pependetan is a ceremonious, traditional dance, during the course of which offerings are made to purify the temple or theater as a prelude to ceremonies or other dances. Young unmarried girls, by virtue of the fact that they serve as offerings, typically perform Pendet. They carry bowls of flower petals, handfuls of which are cast into the air at various times in the course of the dance. Pendet can be thought of as a 'dance of greeting,' to welcome the audience and invite auspicious spirits to enable a good performance. Unlike the exhibition dances that demand arduous training, Pendet may be danced by anyone. It is taught simply by imitation.
