Review: Yasmara & OMG Entertainment’s Grease: An Old Classic Comes to Jakarta
Grease was first staged in 1971, with music, lyrics, and a book by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. It had its debut on Broadway in 1972 until it was eventually adapted into a movie starring John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John in 1978. This play and its consequent movie were a cultural icon, with songs that persist through time and are deeply rooted in modern pop culture. And for the first time, in 2025, it was performed in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Review: MIRAH: A Vibrant Celebration of Betawi Culture Through Musical Theater
The musical Mirah was staged on 22-23 February 2025, at Teater Besar Taman Ismail Marzuki in Jakarta. The production house presented four performances, featuring two different pairs of main leads, with each duo performing twice. This show was produced by Ir. Dery Syrna, directed by Rudolf Puspa and Dolfry Inda Suri. The team from Broadway World Indonesia was given the opportunity to watch their last show on February 23rd, and here’s our review.

Review: Global Jaya's Mary Poppins Jr. is Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
On February 14 and 15, 2025, the private school Global Jaya staged a production of Mary Poppins Jr. at their theater. This show was directed by teacher Mutiara Fallahdani and featured a cast of the school’s students from elementary through high school. The Broadwayworld Indonesia team was invited to watch show 3, which took place on Saturday afternoon.

Review: Pranalika Makes Their Soulful Debut with Footlights and Friendships
A newcomer has arrived to the Jakarta performing arts scene. Founded by artist Kezia Haniel and bearing the name of Pranalika – meaning system or connection in Sanskrit – they offer a consulting and production service for all things performing arts. And, appropriately enough for an artistic enterprise, Pranalika took their first step into the spotlight through a show: Footlights and Friendships.
