Teater KataK will perform an original play titled CLEOPATRA, May 12-14 at Gedung Kesenian Jakarta. In contrast to the previous performances set in Central Europe, this time, they set the scene in Egypt and Rome. To add the color to their portfolio, during the meeting, people are immediately choose CLEOPATRA, said Rosalina Soesanto, Production Coordinator.

This staging focused on the life journey of this famous Egyptian queen, also known for her ingenuity and beauty. With two as the assets above, she can rule throughout Egypt and even made Julius Caesar, The Roman Emperor during the imperial period, to bend his knees in front of her. Even so, her heart always belong to Mark Antony, a Roman politician and general.

Taking the story that happened in Ancient Egypt (50 B.C) gave its own difficulties. The incomplete data about Cleopatra's life became one of the factor. Therefore, in-depth research is done in order to portray the existing characters.

Teater KataK's own coach, as well as the playwright and director of CLEOPATRA, Venantius Vladimir Ivan Pratama said that this script is based on various historical sources about Cleopatra and her living period. "We emphasize on entertainment with lots of music. CLEOPATRA is a light theatrical performance, while we are not going to eliminate the core storyline. Our challenge here is to tell Cleopatra's life from the beginning of her marriage until her death, only in a few hours' play".

The big amount of music in this performance made Margaretha "Etha" Aprilia, the music coordinator of CLEOPATRA, look for many references from various sources. Since the stage title was released, Etha immediately did some research related to the music that would be used in CLEOPATRA. While it took about five months for her to familiarize herself with Egyptian tones, she likes Roman music nuances so she can understand them quickly.
