The 6-episode series will be available on Vidio.
Video platform Vidio is introducing their newest original series, Serigala Terakhir (lit. The Last Wolf). Based on a 2009 movie of the same title, this star-studded, action-packed crime thriller will debut on September 25th and run for 6 episodes.
At a virtual press conference event held on Monday (9/21), the minds behind the production shared their insights. Later, Serigala Terakhir's first episode was also screened for the press.
Director Tommy Dewo was in attendance, alongside producer Wicky V. Olindo and Vidio's chief of content, Tina Arwin. Among the cast members, Abimana Aryasatya, who will play the lead character, Alex, shared his experience working on the series, alongside co-stars Hannah Al Rashid, Rizky Nazar, Bizael Tanasale, Agra Pilaniy, and Kamal Hafid.
Tina Arwin stated that Serigala Terakhir as the first original action-oriented series is an integral part of Vidio's mission to provide quality entertainment for the Indonesian audience. This series is also a taste of what's to come to the OTT (over-the-top) video streaming platform, as they seek to create more original series in addition to movies.
Regarding the conception of the series, producer Wicky V. Olindo looked back at the original movie's legacy. Although it was originally met with apprehension owing to its genre (which was, and still is, rarely found in mainstream Indonesian cinema), the movie proved to have lasting impact, being still a mainstay on the small screen and streaming services.
Thus, he worked with director Tommy Dewo and scriptwriter Titien Wattimena to bring the vision into reality. Despite some setbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Serigala Terakhir series is finally ready for broadcast.
The series takes place 10 years after the original movie. After ten years of jail time, Alex (Abimana Aryasatya) is once again a free man. He seeks to leave his criminal life behind him and start his life anew alongside his wife (Hannah Al Rashid) and family.
Yet, the mob family of Naga Hitam once again rears their head; they want Alex back. He now has to maneuver and fight through the criminal underbelly to protect his new life. And, more importantly, his family.
From the pilot episode, it was made obvious that Tommy Dewo and the creative team set out to showcase a stark, realistic take of the criminal syndicates lurking underneath the veneer of civilian life.
The cinematography definitely didn't disappoint. The shots were cinematic, with great care put into the framing and lighting, creating an effectively suspenseful mood when needed. The world presented was also delightfully realistic and ripe for similarly realistic, hard-hitting action sequences.
With the amount of talent both behind and in front of the camera, fans of gritty action shows would be able to add Serigala Terakhir to their watchlist starting September 25.
