In accordance to celebrating the 50th Anniversary this year, HAIR : The Musical, which tells a story about a hippie tribe in the 60's who refused to join the Vietnam War and demanded freedom and peace, is coming to Jakarta, brought by the passionate students from the London School of Public Relations.
HAIR: The American Tribal Love Musical will be playing at Prof. Dr. Djajusman Auditorium on August 6-7, 2018 during the 10th LSPR PAC (Performing Arts Communication) festival. HAIR will be the last production of PAC Batch 19-1B students, as well as their final LCCI (London Chamber of Commerce Industry) examination.
The reason why PAC Batch 19-1B students chose HAIR because it contains strong messages about freedom, peace and most importantly love.
This musical also talks about issues that are taboo especially here in Indonesia, like sexual orientation, racism, religions and many more. As you all know what has been going in Indonesia. There has been tragedies, prejudice towards religions and a certain race, discrimination towards LGBT, civil wars , etc.
"HAIR contains such relevant messages. It was written in the 60's by James Rado and Gerome Ragni and opened on Broadway in 1968, and it has been around for 50 years. It amazes me and my colleagues how HAIR remains relevant till today" said Elhaq Latief, one of the principal actors in HAIR, who plays Claude Hooper Bukowski."HAIR examines what it is like and what it means to be a young person in a changing world. As humans, we have our own rights to show up about freedom and spread freedom. In terms of freedom, it is not just about living on our own, but to live in a way that acknowledges, respects, and enhances the freedom of others"
The production is directed by Dessyifa Nabilah and choreographed by Reska Primadita. Claude Hooper Bukowski will be played by Elhaq Latief, while George Berger and Sheila Franklin will played by Aldy Inzaghi and Nadya Teja, respectively. There are a total of 70 people working for the production, with 30 people in the cast and 40 others who work behind the stage.
The license for HAIR is acquired from Tams-Witmark Music Library, New York. The production team is in contact with the writer of HAIR, James Rado. He said that this would be the first time HAIR will be performed in Indonesia.
