From 8-10 December 2017, The Jakarta Players Community Theatre will present the comedy drama Beyond Therapy for the first time in Indonesia. Often dubbed the funniest Christopher Durang play, Beyond Therapy is set in 1980s Manhattan.

Beyond Therapy is not only a comedy, but also a singular love story. It is a tale of two unusual people, who, aided by their dedicated therapists, strive to find happiness in an indifferent world. This is a story which will appeal to anyone who has ever wondered why, with the millions of new therapists and social workers brandishing their advanced degrees, it seems we remain no less screwed up than we were in earlier eras, and probably more so.

Bruce, a highly emotional young man, and Prudence, an indecisive young woman, both place personal ads in the hope of finding a stable relationship. They recall their disastrous first date to their respective psychiatrists, both of whom seem crazier than their patients. After making progress in her relationship with Bruce, Prudence meets his lover, who is clearly not happy with their recent developments. Everything culminates in a highly eventful scene at the restaurant.

Director Heriska Suthapa has assembled a stellar cast, including Rizal Iwan in his first theatre performance back in Indonesia after his leading role in Forgotten Kingdoms in Washington DC's Rorschach Theatre. Rizal is joined by Trisa Triandesa, of indie movie Selamat Pagi Malam fame, talented comedy actress Mia Djojowasito, and regular Jakarta Players stalwarts David Knowles and Gene Sugandy. Erik Lasmono rounds out the cast in his first Jakarta Players performance.

Indonesia's premiere of Beyond Therapy by Jakarta Players opens on the evening of 8 December and closes on 10 December, at the Auditorium of Institut Français d'Indonésie (IFI) in Thamrin, Central Jakarta. Seats are limited and tend to sell out very quickly, so it's advisable to buy tickets early.

Please note that this show has an R-Rating (not suitable for people under 17 years old) for adult themes and some strong language.

This event has been made possible through collaboration with 100% Manusia, sponsorship from Asian Tigers, Fortuna U, Ayana Midplaza, and WishPlus, venue cooperation with Institut Francais d'Indonesie.
