On June 8, 10, 11, 17, and 18, 8 PM at Teater & Galeri Salihara, HELATARI SALIHARA 2017 will be held featuring five choreographers with various concepts close to our "daily" life. Starting from everyday life in Jakarta, the life of sculptors, traditional dance magic to the dance movement that was born from the interpretation of literary works.

The development of dance art in Indonesia throughout the 1970s to 2000s generally stands and departs from the tradition and non-tradition roots. For example, there is an influence from western modern dance, hip-hop, street dance or the "free movement". Lately there have also been some choreographers who have developed a form of dance-theater in Europe, as choreographers begun working on the idea of "everyday" (daily conflict) by incorporating motion styles that considered uncommon or a new dance.

HELATARI SALIHARA 2017 was opened by Emanuelle Vo-Dinh (France) performing Sprint. With a single dancer concept, Sprint was created as a body enlightenment. Melati Suryodarmo (Surakarta) will bring Vertical Recall inspired by Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot.

Mohammad Hariyanto (Surabaya) bringing Ghulur Dance inspired from Ghulur Mask in Barangan Village, Sumenep, Madura. Katia Engel (Germany/Indonesia) who brought From Starting to Cut the Wood, backed by the sounds of mask carvers while working. HELATARI SALIHARA 2017 will be closed by Angkot is the Melting Pot by Yola Yulfianti (Jakarta), which display the reality of the public transportation in Jakarta.
