ABOUT THE SHOWMusic by Stephen Flaherty Lyrics by Lynn AhrensBook by Terrence McNallyBased on the E.L. Doctorow novel of the same nameAt the dawn of a new century, everything is changing and anything is possible. Set in the volatile melting pot of turn-of-the-century New York, three distinctly American tales are woven together that of a stifled upper-class wife, a determined Jewish immigrant and a daring young Harlem musician united by their courage, compassion and belief in the promise of the future. Together, they confront historys timeless contradictions of wealth and poverty, freedom and prejudice, hope and despair and what it means to live in America. The winner of the 1998 Tony Awards for Best Score, Book and Orchestrations.EXTREMELY IMPORTANT NOTE Ragtime is set during the turn of the 20 century. One of the most important elements of this show is the lack of racial equality. The language that is used often in Ragtime to describe non-white people is often shocking, but was used consistently during this time. It is our belief that conversation brings about change. There will be talk backs with the audience and the actors after our Sunday performances on September 29 and October 6.
