Lawrence, IN (February 28, 2024) – Presented by The Hyperion Players, the Tony nominated production, GRAND HORIZONS, will take place March 15-24 at Arts for Lawrence in Lawrence, Indiana. Following its Broadway premiere in 2019, this will be the production’s first staging in the state of Indiana.
The story, written by Bess Wohl, hilariously and realistically depicts the deteriorating family dynamic of the French family as the elder parents, Bill and Nancy, announce- in a rather composed manner- their intentions to divorce. Their adult children, however, struggle to grapple with the new reality that the parents and memories they know from childhood might not be as polished as they once imagined. Shedding light on the increasing trends of “gray divorces”, Grand Horizons sets a “peculiar tone of light comedy that is created out of dark matter and at one time defined the essence of sophisticated Broadway humor” (Marilyn Stasio, Variety).
“There is so much universal truth in Grand Horizons, tucked between big, raucous laughs and audacious events. Every one of us knows how it feels to be confused by the rules of life and wondering where we went wrong,” said director Nicole Amsler. “And as part of the sandwich generation, I have personally felt the challenges of launching your adult children into the world while simultaneously trying to manage older parent’s unique challenges.”
As the third production in Hyperion’s second season, following Waiting for Godot and Doubt- A Parable, Grand Horizons continues to encapsulate the new and evolving company’s mission statement: Hyperion will be a collaborative, welcoming theater that constantly strives
for artistic excellence; we will deliver authentic stories that engage, inspire, challenge, and delight; and we will raise up our community through the power of the performing arts. Hyperion incorporated as a nonprofit in late 2021 and publicly launched in January 2022.
