Theatre at the Center presents the winner of the 1980 Tony Award for "Best New Musical" and the 2001 Tony Award for "Best Revival of a Musical", 42ND STREET.
The biggest production to ever be presented on Theatre at the Center's stage, the show runs September 13 through October 21 at 1040 Ridge Road, Munster, with a press performance September 16. Based on the classic 1933 Busby Berkeley movie musical of the same name, 42ND STREET is one of the longest running productions in Broadway history, having played for a staggering 9 years, for a total of 3,486 performances. With a book by Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble, music by three-time Academy Award-winning composer Harry Warren and lyrics by Al Dubin, 42ND STREET features a memorable score including the show stopping numbers We're in the Money, You're Getting to be a Habit With Me, Lullaby of Broadway, and of course, 42nd Street. Theatre at the Center's Artistic Director William Pullinsi will direct with Choreography by Linda Fortunato.
Considered to be "the quintessential backstage musical," 42ND STREET tells the story of a starry-eyed young actress named Peggy Sawyer who leaves her Allentown home with hopes of making it big on Broadway. Julian Marsh, the Great White Way's most brilliant director, is preparing his biggest show yet, Pretty Lady, in the depths of the Great Depression in New York. He is faced with one obstacle after another, and when aging leading lady Dorothy Brock breaks her ankle at the last minute, panic spreads through the company. Thrust into the spotlight is young chorus girl Peggy Sawyer. Peggy is beautiful and talented; but can she overcome her nerves and give the performance of a lifetime? In just 36 hours, a star is born! This big, bold, glitzy musical celebrates what dreams are made of.
The cast of 42ND STREET is led by five-time Jeff Award nominee Larry Adams as "Julian Marsh". Adams most recently appeared Off-Broadway in the The Hunchback Variations, and was in the Broadway production and National Tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera.
