The Madame Walker Theatre Center has secured an "accomplished fundraiser" to lead the organization's fund development efforts on an interim basis. Ms. Brewer will serve as a chief development officer while the board searches for a new president later this year.

About the fundraiser: Falicia Brewer and her consulting firm (Brewer & Associates) bring a wealth of talent and experience in the areas of fundraising, strategic planning and marketing. She is especially adept in creating effective cases of support, formulating capital campaigns and identifying individual and institutional donors to realize fundraising goals. Madame Walker board chair Joni Collins stated, "We are fortunate to have a window of opportunity to build a stronger organizational infrastructure that will not only make the Theatre more viable financially but also lay the foundation for ensuring the next president’s success.

About the theater: The Madame Walker Theatre is at a pivotal point in its 85-year history. The Walker has enjoyed a national and international reputation for showcasing some of the world's greatest artistic talent, and its historic building located on Indiana Avenue is an architectural jewel in the downtown Indianapolis landscape. Collins remarked that the challenge going forward is to fully embrace and incorporate Madame Walker's legacy as an entrepreneur into the organization's day-to-day business practices. "Our objective is to maximize our position as a world-class theatre in a highly competitive arts and cultural marketplace. To do this, we will continue to develop the Walker's board of directors as the primary ambassadors for spreading the message of the Walker's value to the community and why it is critically important that it receives ongoing attention and support.”

In addition to the 2012/13 season that is being planned, the Madame Walker Theatre will maintain a variety of performance and program offerings and host its annual Awards Luncheon on April 19th. Last year's award recipients were Walter Blackburn, celebrating his visionary commitment to architectural creativity that helped transform the Visual Environments in several cities including downtown Indianapolis. Also, Robin Winston, president of the Winston-Terrell Group, Robin Winston manages the largest minority-owned government affairs, community relations and public outreach firm in Indiana.
