The Cabaret at The Columbia Club announces its 2013 Winter/Spring lineup. (Due to an increase in the number of performances now presented annually, The Cabaret will release its artistic line-up bi-annually starting in 2013.)
The season kicks off on January 19
th with critically acclaimed jazz vocalist,
Kurt Elling and his show
1619 Broadway, The Brill Building Project.
The lineup spotlights four international acts, including Germany’s searing siren,
Ute Lemper; Australia’s naughty kitty,
Meow Meow; cool and hip global gypsies, Paris Combo; and London’s
Barb Jungr.
“The Cabaret has hit its stride,” says
Shannon Forsell, Managing and Artistic Director. “Going into our fourth year, we are becoming known not just locally, but internationally for presenting the best of cabaret artists. As a result, we are now drawing audience members from around the world as well,” says Forsell.
Thanks to the LDI 100th Anniversary Celebration Cultural Partnership Gift Program, The Cabaret has also introduced a new series and a “35 and under” club designed to attract and cultivate the next generation of cabaret audiences and performers.
“The New Generation” is a three-show and master class series featuring accomplished cabaret artists under age 40 that have a high appeal to audience members also under age 40. The master classes, which will remain open to the public, will be expanded to involve partnerships with the music departments of area high schools, and statewide colleges and universities.
“The New Generation” series will culminate in a performance that will spotlight the “best of the best” of promising local artists that have come out of The Cabaret’s master classes and other educational programs.
The Cabaret will also roll out “The Lounge,” a free club for audience members under age 35. Members will receive 20% ticket discounts, invitations to exclusive pre-show soirees, and exclusive access to last-minute deep ticket discount opportunities.
