Phoenix Theatre of Indianapolis presents the NNPN Rolling World premiere of Lauren Gunderson's I and You. Opening tomorrow, March 13, 2014 in the Frank and Katrina Basile Theatre at the Phoenix, this show runs through April 13, 2014 and will be directed by Indiana University Bloomington Professor Martha Jacobs. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the stars -- Eli Curry (Anthony) and Katharine Shelton (Caroline) -- in action below!
In I AND YOU, one afternoon in your town, Anthony arrives at Caroline's door bearing waffle fries, a beat-up copy of Walt Whitman's "Song of Myself" from Leaves of Grass, and an urgent assignment from their high school lit teacher. Living most of her life online, Caroline is sick and hasn't been to school is months, but she is as quick and sardonic as Anthony is athletic and popular. As these two let down their guards and share their secrets, this seemingly vanilla poetry assignment unlocks a much deeper mystery that has brought them together. I and You is a valentine to youth, life, love, and the strange beauty of human connectedness.
Martha Jacobs will be directing. Martha's Phoenix credits include: Sophie, The Housewives of Mannheim; Sylvia, End Days; Nancy Shirley, Frozen; Jackie, Jackie: An American Life; Sophie, Florida; and, Bessie, Marvin's Room. She has acted with: Edinburgh Festival, GeVa Theatre, Gloucester Stage, IRT, Brown County Playhouse, and Oasis Productions. As a director at the Phoenix: My Name is Asher Lev, Well, The Action Against Sol Schumann, Washington-Sarajevo Talks.
