She's a spunky kid who's moved to New York from Salina, Kansas. She's ready to join the modern women of the 1920's, raise her skirts, bob her hair, marry her boss and have a stable future. But then, there's Jimmy...
The Buck Creek Players ends its 2011-2012 season "It Takes Two" with The Playhouse Players Youth Production of Thoroughly Modern Millie Junior. The show is based on the popular movie, but gussied up with high-energy musical numbers, tap dancing, and new songs by composer Jeanine Tesori and lyricist Dick Scanlan. The musical swept the Tony Awards in 2002 and created such excitement that it left all of New York dancing the Charleston.
The zany plot revolves around Millie Dillmount (Molly Will), who escapes to New York City from Salina, Kansas, determined to marry her wealthy boss - whomever he may be. Shedding her country girl image for the modern look of a flapper, she takes a room at the Priscilla Hotel for Women and gets a job as a stenographer at the Sincere Trust Insurance Company. In short time, she finds herself involved with Jimmy Smith (Sam Jacobi), an apparently unsuccessful paper clip salesman; Miss Dorothy Brown (Briana Weaver), a genteel aspiring actress who is excited to be poor; and Trevor Graydon (Trenton Baker), the unromantic boss Millie wants to marry. Add the hotel proprietress, Mrs. Meers (EmmaLee Dixon), a villainess everyone loves to hate, and her assistants Ching Ho (Josue Reyes) and Bun Foo (Kara Porzuczek) whom she forces to carry out her diabolical schemes, and the evening adds up to adventure, romance, comedy and pure entertainment. Rounding out the talented cast of fifteen are CameRon Brown (Ensemble), Paige Brown (Alice), Maddie Fischer (Rita), Noah McCullough (Ensemble), Eileen Porzuczek (Miss Flannery), Lucy Shirley (Ethel Peas), JT Strasser (Ensemble), Morgan Summers (Gloria), and Emily Urbanski (Ruth).
Ruthie Weller-Passman makes her directorial debut at Buck Creek Playhouse after most recently stage managing our last musical, The Drowsy Chaperone, in June. Joining Weller-Passman on the production team are Lynne B. Robinson and Phyllis Arthur (Producers), Scott Fleshood (Vocal Director), D. Scott Robinson (Choreographer), Christy Vance and Kris Brennan (Set Designers/Technical Directors), Donna Jacobi (Costumes), Jeff Rowand (Lighting Designer), , Ralph Passman (Assistant Director), and Melissa DeVito (Properties).
