Buck Creek Players, the award-winning all-volunteer community theater on the southeast side of Marion County, will present Arthur Kopit's translation of Henrik Ibsen's Ghosts beginning Friday, June 4th, and continuing for two weekends through Sunday, June 13th. Curtain times are at 8:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, with 2:30 p.m. matinees on Sundays.
Directed by Greg Howard, Ibsen's nineteenth century classic of love and betrayal is a searing portrait of a community whose repressive and hypocritical sense of morality devastates lives. As Pastor Manders (Jon Lindley) and the widow Mrs. Alving (Gari
L. Williams) prepare for the opening of an orphanage in memory of her late husband, her son Oswald (David Strohmeyer) returns from Paris in deteriorating health, with his eye on Regina Engstrand, the family maid (Kari Ann Stamatoplos). Haunted by family secrets, Mrs. Alving must decide whether to admit the truth about her husband's past or to protect the family's reputation at all costs. Rounding out the cast as Regina's father, Jacob Engstrand is Bernard Wurger. Brilliant, vital and enormously intelligent, Ghosts is one of the most memorable plays in modern literature. Decried when it was first written, it has grown to be one of the great classics that theatre revisits time-and-again and still feels alive and valid today.
Joining Howard on the production team are Lea Viney (Technical Director), Andrew Ranck (Lighting Designer), Jeff Rowand (Sound Designer), Susan Sanderock (Costumer), Ruthie Weller-Passman (Stage Manager), Ryan Powell (Assistant Director), and Melissa DeVito (Properties). Strohmeyer also serves as Set Designer on the production.
Located at 11150 Southeastern Avenue, admission is $14 for adults, and $12 for students and senior citizens (ages 62 and up). Due to adult situations, this production is recommended for mature audiences only.
