The Phoenix Theatre of Indianapolis announces four performances of Dos Fallopia starring Lisa Koch and Peggy Platt. Opening October 1, 2009, this show can be seen in the Frank & Katrina Basile Theatre at the Phoenix through October 4, 2009. The show is titled Dos Fallopia: Deja Poo (The undeniably eerie feeling that you’ve seen this crap before…) and features the two talented women who have been writing and performing together since 1990.
Lisa Koch and Peggy Platt have logged 17 holiday ventures together, more than 25 full-length shows, and countless international dates. They have toured their sold-out stage shows, Twin Sisters of Different Cul-de-sacs, Pretty Girls, Not Too Bright, and Desperate Spuddwives in theaters in London, New York, San Francisco, LA, Chicago, Seattle, Minneapolis, and in Indianapolis at the Phoenix. This show (Dos Fallopia: Deja Poo) can best be described as their greatest hits and features some of their favorite sketches and characters, including the mother-daughter country and western duo The Spudds; crunchy granola duo Mud (Compost Morningdew and Dolphin-Free Tuna Woman); Sister Mary Agnes in Shakespeare for Dummies; and many more.
When asked “Why Dos Fallopia and why now?” Phoenix Producing Director Bryan Fonseca said “We all really need to laugh right now and Lisa and Peggy are two of the best sketch comedy artists in the country. Lisa called one day and we decided that it’s been too long since an Indianapolis audience had the chance to see them.” The last time Dos Fallopia performed in Indianapolis, the critics agreed that this duo is something special. NUVO wrote “…you’ll never know how hilariously funny they are until you see Lisa Koch and Peggy Platt in person… (they have) impeccable comic timing combined with amazing skill at writing comedy and lyrics.” The Indianapolis Star wrote “Ingenious, outrageous and hilarious… like the best of Saturday Night Live combined with the comic genius of Jonathan Winters. Koch and Platt are funny. They could read the Yellow Pages and I’d laugh.”
The Phoenix Theatre was founded in 1983 by a group of Indianapolis theatre artists who wanted to produce contemporary plays as well as to pay the theatre’s artists, a goal that was achieved a few years down the road. In 1983, the Phoenix fulfilled a unique niche in the city’s theatre environment: producing exclusively current plays. The theatre’s mission has not changed since 1983, and Bryan Fonseca, the theatre’s Producing Director, retains his original position. The Phoenix mission statement reads: “The Phoenix Theatre entertains by presenting the best of professional, contemporary theatre in an intimate setting. Engaging our community, patrons and staff with issue-oriented plays, the Phoenix enlightens audiences about social concerns while challenging them to re-examine their roles in society.” Since 1988, the Phoenix has been housed in the Mass Ave Theatre and Gallery District in a 1907 former church building. The theatre’s two venues are the proscenium 130-seat Mainstage and the cabaret-style 75-seat Frank & Katrina Basile (buh-SEAL) Theatre.
