Phoenix Theatre of Indianapolis announces the addition of Tom Harton to the Board of Directors. Harton is currently a contributing editor for the Indianapolis Business Journal. Harton joined IBJ in 1984, fresh out of Indiana University's School of Journalism. He covered banking, real estate and the business of sports before becoming associate editor in 1988. He became managing editor the following year and editor in 1990, serving in that position until 2013. Over the years, Harton's short stories about Indianapolis real estate have been published in The New York Times and he has won statewide and national awards for his IBJ editorials and columns. Harton lives downtown in a house that he restored and is active in the Chatham Arch Neighborhood Association.
"Being on the Phoenix board is a great opportunity for me to support an institution in my very own neighborhood of Chatham Arch," stated Harton, who has attended two board meetings at the theatre. "I'm also looking forward to learning a little about the business of theater. My only previous experience is as an audience member. I've loved the shows I've seen at the Phoenix. It's been interesting to see how the staging of shows like August: Osage County have been adapted to our smaller venue."
Phoenix Theatre Producing Director Bryan Fonseca is "excited about having Tom on our board. His experience will make him an asset to our board as a whole and whatever committee he chooses to work on."
