LINCOLN: A PIONEER TALE Set for Tonight at Lincoln Amphitheatre

A southern Indiana theatre will feature 19 local actors in the second season of the musical about Lincoln's Indiana boyhood years.

The two-act musical play A.Lincoln: A Pioneer Tale will debut its second season at the 1500-seat, covered Lincoln Amphitheatre tonight, June 7. It entertains and educates audiences about Lincoln's journey from Indiana pioneer to president of the United States through theatre, song, and dance.

"This musical shows that as the boy grew to a man in Indiana, and through determination of spirit and a compassion for the people, this common American achieved greatness. With this musical play, audiences will experience and celebrate the life and times of this extraordinary man through song, dance, and spectacle," says A.Lincoln: A Pioneer Tale Playwright and Director Ken Jones.

A.Lincoln: A Pioneer Tale is enhanced by an original musical score of ten songs with lyrics by Christine Jones and music written by Jamey Strawn.

The 19 locals come from Dubois, Gibson, Pike, Spencer, Warrick, Daviess, IN, and Daviess, KY counties.

Lincoln Amphitheatre sits on the grounds President Lincoln walked as a boy growing up in southern Indiana in the town presently named for the 16th president, Lincoln City. Lincoln City is just four miles from Holiday World & Splashin' Safari theme park. Lincoln lived in Indiana from the time he was seven years old to 21 years of age. He received his less than one year of formal education in Indiana, studied by candlelight, lost his mother Nancy Hanks to milk sickness and his sister Sarah Lincoln Grigsby in childbirth.

Lincoln Amphitheatre will premiere the second season of A.Lincoln: A Pioneer Tale on Friday, June 7 and run Wednesday to Saturdayevenings until June 29 with matinees on June 16 and June 26. Evening performances begin at 7:30 p.m. CDT and the matinees at 2 p.m. CDT. Ticket prices are $19 for adults; $16 for seniors ages 55 and older, students ages seven to 21, and military; and $6 for children ages six and under. An optional homestyle buffet meal including fried chicken, roast beef, green beans, corn, and slaw is available for an additional charge to guests who reserve at least three days in advance.
