IndyFringe Theatre Festival-Indianapolis Theatre Fringe Festival (IndyFringe)

Mark your calendars for Year Five of the IndyFringe Theatre Festival, a big, bold and bodacious celebration of edgy, innovative and accessible performance arts! Join us for 10 days of comedy, cabaret, dance, drama, improve, magic, opera, puppets, storytelling, vaudeville and every other form of provocative pageantry.

WHO: 53 performance groups from Indiana, U.S.A. and the world.
WHAT: More than 270 live theatre performances in 10 days, plus fine arts, films, live music, street performers, and other outrageous outbursts of off-beat theatrical fun.
WHEN: August 21-30, 2009
WHERE: Six venues in the Massachusetts Avenue Cultural District.
WHY: Because it's the best way to support independent performers, new ideas, and artistic freedom and have a fabulously fun time!

In addition to our diverse offering of shows, check out these FREE Fringe Events:

• VisualFringe, opens Friday, August 7. IndyFringe partners with the Mass Ave art galleries to give an eclectic mix of established and undiscovered artists the opportunity to show their work. Be sure to vote for your favorite artwork to become the next Be Indypendent sticker!

• Opening Night Parade and Party, Thursday, August 20. Join Refried Fringe, our radical marching band, and festival and local performers as we pump up the excitement and parade down Mass Ave. Then stick around for the party! Each performing group has three minutes to impress you before they get the gong. We'll wrap up the night with the Playboy Pscyhonauts, rocking out with sitars and go-go dancers.

• Outdoor Stage, August 21-23 and 28-30. The Outdoor Tent is the hotspot for all Fringers to hang out in between shows. Every night is full of surprises featuring local and traveling musicians and entertainers. On top of our own fringey favorites, NUVO has attracted some of Chicago and Indy's most eclectic performers, Indianapolis Songwriter's Café has great musicians lined up, and Indy Jazz Fest will bring some swingin' tunes. Make sure you're wearing your festival Backer Button for entrance to our hipster hangout.

• Street Performances, all week. The buskers will be roaming the streets to entertain you in unexpected places and ways. Keep an eye out for musicians, magicians, and other random acts with crazy costumes and skills.
