The Indiana University Cinema and the Jorgensen Guest Filmmaker Lecture Series will present a special 25th anniversary screening of the classic American film Hoosiers on April 7 (Thursday), at 6:30 p.m.

Angelo Pizzo
The event will include a private screening of the film with Hoosiers director David Anspaugh and writer-producer Angelo Pizzo, followed by a reception in the lobby of IU Auditorium with the filmmakers at 8:30 p.m.

Tickets are $40 per person and can be purchased through the IU Auditorium Box Office, by calling 812-855-1103 or by e-mailing tickets@indiana.edu.

In addition to the ticketed event are two free events with the filmmakers, both at IU Cinema. At 3 p.m., April 7 (Thursday), the filmmakers will discuss the actor-director relationship. IU Cinema will also present a live podcast with Anspaugh and Pizzo on April 8 (Friday), at 3 p.m.

"The IU Cinema is pleased to host these special anniversary events," said Jon Vickers, director of IU Cinema. "Hoosiers was honored in 1987 with nominations for Academy, Golden Globe and Independent Spirit awards and is still considered by many -- including ESPN -- to be the best sports movie ever made. With their films, David and Angelo have secured a very prominent place in film history for the state of Indiana."

David Anspaugh
Anspaugh is an Indiana native and IU graduate who began his career as a director for the television show "Hill Street Blues," for which he won two Emmy Awards. His film directing debut, Hoosiers, earned him an Independent Spirit Nomination for Best First Feature. He went on to direct such films as Rudy and Moonlight and Valentino. His most recent film, Little Red Wagon, is in post-production.

Pizzo grew up in Bloomington, graduated from IU and returned to his hometown after living in California for 30 years. As screenwriter and producer of Hoosiers, Rudy and The Game of Their Lives, Pizzo's love for sports has permeated his work. Hoosiers earned him a nomination for Best First Feature at the 1987 Independent Spirit Awards. His latest film, Paz (in the pre-production phase) continues his tradition of celebrating the human spirit of athletic underdogs.
