THE WORKSHOP: THE ARTIST AND PLAYWRIGHT AS C.E.O.:
In this day and age of a weakening economy, it's essential that artists of all kinds understand what it means to be not only a working artist, but to be an insightful, productive business person as well. This workshop will explore all the various elements of the business of playwriting: securing an agent, securing a publisher, self-promotion, professional memberships, branding, packaging, etc. Workshop led by Gary Garrison.

THE PANEL DISCUSSION: SUBMISSIONS - DO'S AND DON'TS: Increase your odds by submitting the perfect play submission. Our panelists will share their insights on the most common mistakes made by playwrights during the submission process. Panel discussion led by Gary Garrison, Doug Evans, and Phillip Colglazier - Fort Wayne Civic Theatre Executive/Artistic Director.

Gary Garrison is a playwright and author, as well as the Executive Director for Creative Affairs of the Dramatist Guild of America. Prior to his work at the Guild, Garrison filled the posts of Artistic Director, Producer and fulltime faculty member in the Department of Dramatic Writing at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, where he produced over forty-five festivals of new work, collaborating with hundreds of playwrights, directors and actors. He is the program coordinator for the Summer Playwriting Intensive for the Kennedy Center, the former National Chair of Playwriting for the Kennedy Center's American College Theater Festival and recipient of the Outstanding Teacher of Playwriting from the Association of Theatre in Higher Education. www.garygarrison.com

Doug Evans is a principal in the New York City and Boca Raton, Florida firm of Luftig Evans Non-Profit Solutions. Evans recently produced the off-Broadway production of Frankenstein and held the position of Chief Operating Officer of Nederlander Worldwide Entertainment and President of Broadway China Ventures, a division of the Nederlander Organization charged with opening offices in Beijing and Shanghai and creating a network of theaters nationwide in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao. Evans has also served as Executive Director of the Stamford Center for the Arts in Stamford, Connecticut, Executive Director of the State of Connecticut Commission on the Arts and a former Executive Director of the Embassy Theatre in Fort Wayne. www.goehringevans.com

THE LADIES IN CABIN 10 by Nancy Carlson
Every year, for seven years, five middle-aged female friends have spent a week together in a lake cabin where they relax, play bridge, argue about who dealt last, nip at the bottle, share their lives and banter. This year is different. They decide to take on the challenge of giving a life-makeover to Gus, the owner of the collapsing lake resort. The women themselves change as emphasis shifts from cards and drinking to exercising and improving. We learn that girlfriends are good to have and that although everyone else's life looks perfect, it just isn't so.

--Nancy Carlson was born in Fort Wayne and is a graduate of South Side High School. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University, Bloomington, and majored in Speech and Theatre. She was elected to the National Theatre Honorary Society and won an all-university script competition that resulted in the production of her musical, The Beautiful Witch. Nancy's work includes three musicals for children's theatre, all of which have been produced around the United States. The Magic Pebble was named Best Children's Theatre Play in Denver and was published in 1996 by Samuel French, New York. Mountain Molly was named first-runner-up in 1985 by a national playwriting contest sponsored by the American Theatre Association. Nancy also co-authored a Christian musical, 5000 for Supper, which enjoys production throughout the year at various churches. During the years of raising her family, Nancy taught school and remained active in community theatre. She has played leading roles in over 37 productions in Santa Monica, Denver, and Fort Wayne and has received several acting awards. Nancy spent the last 12 years of her working career as a Senior Loan Officer with Ruoff Mortgage. After retirement, she moved to Chatham, Illinois, to be near her daughter. She remains active in her church, directing a junior girls' choir as well as writing and producing the annual Christmas pageant. She continues to contribute humorous guest columns for both Fort Wayne News Sentinel, and the Springfield State Journal Register. Nancy is also a major writer for the Senior News & Times for Illinois, contributing a book column and many other assignments. Nancy has three children and seven grandchildren.
