Buck Creek Players, the award-winning all-volunteer community theater on Indianapolis' southeast side, is proud to announce their upcoming 36th season, On the Home Front. Located at 11150 Southeastern Avenue, the Buck Creek Players have become known for presenting world, city and U.S. premieres, along with standard fare that appeal to everyone.

Opening on October 2, 2009 and continuing for a three weekend performance run through October 19, 2009 is Jane Martin's homage to classic western pulp writers and B-horror movies, Flaming Guns of the Purple Sage. Big 8, a feisty and bitter critter, is facing foreclosure on the Wyoming ranch where she rehabilitates injured rodeo cowboys. The arrival of a shocking woman named Shedevil and a one-eyed Ukrainian biker named Black Dog ushers in outrageous violence and horror in this shoot 'em up, knock 'em up, cut 'em up comic romp that roasts the cowboy mentality of western writers like Zane Grey. Showcasing the antic side of this prolific, award winning playwright, this bodacious and macabre cross-over comedy mixes horror and hilarity as it pits the code of the West against contemporary darkness. Parrish Williams directs.

Bringing in the holiday spirit on December 4, 2009 is Home for Christmas, a piece of holiday warmth by Anne Coulter Martens based on Hoosier Lloyd C. Doulgas' original story. Determind that the family recapture something they seem to have lost, a daughter forces them all to come home for the holidays. In the midst of the laughter, they discover something you will want to discover with them. Melissa DeVito makes her directorial debut at The Playhouse with this piece that reminds us of the importance of "family" during the holidays. The production is scheduled for a three-weekend performance run through December 20, 2009.

Based on Robert Fulghum's best-selling books, All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten enjoys six performances over two weekends, January 29-February 7, 2010. Taking a funny, insightful, heartwarming look at what is profound in everyday life, this tightly woven adaptation has earned standing ovations from Singapore to Prague, from L.A. to D.C. The delightful stories feature colorful characters such as a shy little boy who insists on playing the "pig" in his class production of Cinderella and steals the show; a man whose dream of flying carries him high over Los Angeles...in a lawn chair buoyed by surplus weather balloons; a "mother of the bride" who's staged a perfect wedding until the bowling ball of fate rolls down the aisle; and a modern-day Greek philosopher who finds the meaning of life in a piece of broken mirror from World War II. These stories celebrate our very existence, from the whimsy of childhood to the wisdom of old age. BCP newcomer Jim Thorp directs.

Beginning April 9, 2010, the Indianapolis premiere of Bruce Kimmel and David Wechter's zany musical comedy, The Brain From Planet X, takes the stage. A rip-roaring musical send-up of low-budget sci-fi movies from the 1950's, The Brain From Planet X tells the story of an alien invasion circa 1958. When an ill-intentioned band of interplanetary travelers arrive on Earth with a plan to take over the world, an all-too regular, nuclear family is forced to defend the human race from will-bending extinction. Scheduled through April 25, 2010, D. Scott Robinson is slated to direct.

Strongly criticised and considered scandalous when it debuted in 1891, Henrik Ibsen's Ghosts was deliberately sensational. The past threatens the present in a house haunted by lies and decit. To save her son from the sins of his father, Helene Alving must finally reveal the secrets of long ago. But her son has a secret of his own. Can they survive once the truth is brought into the light of day? Translated by Arthur Kopit, Greg Howard will direct the production for six performances, June 4-13, 2010.

The summer months will involve area youth as Buck Creek Players presents a Playhouse Players Youth Production of Disney's Alice in Wonderland Junior. Join Alice's madcap adventures in Wonderland as she chases the White Rabbit, races the Dodo Bird, gets tied up with the Tweedles, raps with a bubble-blowing Caterpillar, and beats the Queen of Hearts at her own game! Bring the entire family and enjoy such classic Disney songs as "I'm Late," "The Un-birthday Song" and "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah." Six performances are scheduled July 31-August 8, 2010. Phyllis Ann Arthur makes her directorial comeback for this production.
