BWW Blog: Hectic Start to a New Semester Image

After three weeks off for the semester break, I was very excited to get back to snowy Bloomington, IN to start back up for my second semester at Indiana University. The BFA Musical Theatre program here at IU is very intense in terms of classwork, so we hit the ground running; we even had auditions for our spring mainstage musical before classes started! We auditioned for City of Angels, and had an intense week of callbacks while learning where our classes were and getting acquainted with our new professors. I was so honored to be cast in the show, and I can't wait to get started on the show in February! This will be my first mainstage IU Theatre show since starting college; I was in Spring Awakening in the fall at a community college in Bloomington and am currently in Jasper in Deadland through an undergrad theatre company at IU. What's wonderful about IU's program is that there are so many performance opportunities in the department and through outside work in Bloomington, and I have been so lucky to have been a part of such productions!

In addition to classes starting up again and City of Angels auditions, summer stock auditions are also coming up! This weekend, I'll be road tripping down to St. Louis to do the open Non-Equity Dance Call at The MUNY. It's my first major summer stock dance call, and I'm sure it will be an intense environment. However, having been in ballet all first semester and taking it again this semester, I feel much more confident in my dance ability than I did coming into college. This weekend spent in St. Louis should be fun!

Overall, I couldn't be happier starting a new semester at an amazing program, surrounded by amazing people and faculty. My first semester of college flew by and was a whirlwind adventure, and I loved every minute of it. In addition to taking ballet, I've studied music theory, acting, and theatre history, in addition to taking voice lessons and having master classes with casting directors from New York. A degree in theatre is certainly tough, but we're artists for a reason; we wouldn't be doing what we're doing if it weren't for the payoff of all the work! I can't wait to see what the spring semester has in store and I can't wait to share my experience here on BWW!
