Antigone, determined to bury her brother who has died in a contentious civil war, now has to battle their uncle Creon, the new king. He decrees that her brother's body should be left unburied for the birds to devour.
Believing her duty to her brother and the gods is greater than her duty to her king, she disobeys this order knowing full well that challenging authority and fighting for justice will bring about her eventual demise. Fearless in the face of moral, religious, and political dilemmas that mirror those of today, Antigone, often seen as theatre's first female hero, is a hero of our time.
