Composers chose a variety of subjects to base their compositions on. Some of them used animals, including birds and fish, as their subjects. This concert is a trip to the zoo for music-lovers. Come see the trout, the hippopotamus, the elephant, the swan, the gadfly, the lark, the spider, hens, cocks, tortoises, kangaroos, wild asses and that most beloved animal of all: pianists! Featured on the programme are Saint-Saen’s Carnival of Animals performed with the poetry of Ogden Nash by Rehaan Engineer as well as Shostakovich’s Gadfly Suite performed by the Symphony Orchestra of India and Schubert’s Trout Quintet in a unique arrangement for two piano eight hands performed by the winners of Con Brio along with Paul Stewart and Mathieu Gaudet.
