There's not much left to be said about one of the greatest mystery novels of all time, written by a master story-teller and creator of two of the most famous characters in crime fiction. Small wonder then, that the original has inspired writers the world over and spawned myriad versions on film, television, and stage. But this particular stage adaptation is perhaps the only funny take on the novel. It could be described as a comedy thriller that retains all the key elements of Conan Doyle's classic story, inventively twisting them with a cheeky respect for the original, and taking a fresh look at the unique relationship between Dr Watson and Sherlock Holmes.
When Sir Charles Baskerville is found dead on his estate, with a look of terror still etched on his face and the paw prints of a gigantic hound beside his body, the great detective Sherlock Holmes is summoned from Baker Street with Dr Watson in tow to unravel the mysteries surrounding his death and investigate the ancient curse of the Hound of the Baskervilles.
