The third edition of NCPA's Contemporary Dance Season promises to be a visual treat with discussions, film screenings and performances by some of the best contemporary dancers in the country. Details below!

An Evening with Bharat Sharma

A short film based on the works of the celebrated contemporary dancer Narendra Sharma followed by a talk with Bharat Sharma, son of Narendra Sharma, conducted by choreographer and contemporary dancer, Sumeet Nagdev.

Contemporary Dance Performance by Bharat Sharma and Dancers of Bhoomika Creative Dance Centre

Born in a family of modern dancers, Bharatsharma grew up in an environment that was conducive for artistic growth. Groomed in principles of choreography by his father, Narendra Sharma at Bhoomika Creative Dance Centre in New Delhi, he also received thorough grounding in MayurbhanjChhau under Krishna Chandra Naik and learnt Kathakali from SadanamBalakrishnan.

Bharat Sharma and the dancers of Bhoomika Creative Dance Centre will present 2 of their mostnoted productions;

Metro! Metro! This piece focuses on life around Delhi's Metro and ways it has brought about profound change in cultural life of the city. It is a peppy and upbeat choreography, exploring incidents, episodes and atmosphere around Delhi Metro's daily run.

Jatakmalais an artistic impression of Jataka Tales and elucidates underlying meaning to common ideas that run through the narrative. The choreographer, instead of depicting specific stories, has imbibed images and impressions through his reading of these tales. The unfolding of scenes reflects images of animal worlds, power, conflicts, environment, relationships, dreams and abstract concepts. Props, color schema, design elements interplay to convey meanings through gestures, movement and group compositions.

"Scrambled Eggs"
A contemporary dance performance by Terence Lewis and the Terrence Lewis Contemporary Dance Company

Scrambled Eggs is the much talked about 'come-back' production of the ace-choreographer and contemporary dancer Terence Lewis and is the second performance in this year's Season of Contemporary Dance.

'Scrambled eggs....or sunny side up?, a two hours contemporary piece, brings to the stage an amalgamation of varied expressions through movement, incorporating diverse contemporary techniques like contact work, release technique, flying low & fighting monkey techniques.

Distinctly different from the musical format, this is a first of its kind, where Theatre and Dance meet on one platform! Terence Lewis acts, directs and narrates 8 stories told through visual medium of dance!

'Scrambled Eggs' offers a whole range of emotions for the viewer - from the awe inspiring dances, to the heart wrenching stories, from the thought provoking subplots to the downright hilarious comic moments.

Talk by BN Goswamy and Bharatanatyam performance by Malavika Sarukkai

NCPA in collaboration with Sahachari Foundation presents 'Iridescent, like shot silk.' BN Goswamy delivers atalk on the theme of Bihari Sat Sai's work, using illustrations of miniature paintings embellished with poetry. The lecture will be followed by a performance by Malavika Sarukkai.
