NCPA And Rage Join Hands To Celebrate World Theatre Day Image

A tradition started in 1961, on 27th March theatre is celebrated worldwide. It is a day when everyone acknowledges people who are working in the theatre - on and off stage. Mumbai will see a massive celebration with Drama Dhamaal conceptualized by Rage and supported by the National Centre for Performing Arts.

NCPA Chairman Mr. Khushroo Suntook expresses, "In a time where walls are being built and division and fragmentation is on the rise, NCPA, is happy to be collaborating with Rage productions to bring the theatre community together to celebrate their achievements, have a few laughs and enjoy each other's work, alongside supporting the unsung heroes and stalwarts of the fraternity who have left and continue to leave their mark behind. We welcome the community and the audiences and hope to make this an annual affair we can all look forward to."

The evening will truly be a dhamaal with plays, monologues, songs, dance, stand up and felicitations. Language in theatre knows no boundaries. Keeping that in mind, performances will be in multiple languages...Hindi, English, Marathi and Gujarati. More than 50 artists are coming together to put up this spectacle - making it a total must watch for every theatre enthusiast.

This evening is one of a kind and the performances are exclusively curated and designed for celebrating theatre. Elaborating more Rajit Kapur shares, "The idea is to use the combined collective creative energy of the theatre talent of our city and make DHAMAAL. We don't often come together...what better way than to come together on world theatre day itself. 36 Ghante was one such initiative. This is another, for one night only"

This is not just a night of celebration, but also a way to give back to the theatre and to express gratitude to those who have been pillars of strength to this industry. The proceeds collected from ticket sales will go back to the theatre community and be presented to unsung heroes of theatre.

Drama Dhamaal will be staged on 27th of March from 7:30 pm onwards at the Tata Theatre at NCPA.
