When the iconic Prithvi Theatre in Mumbai marks its 40 years by celebrating Prithvi Theatre Festival, guess who comes to attend the event? None other than Bollywood superstar Ranbir Kapoor. While it may not be a surprise there as the theatre has been founded by the first family of Bollywood, but the fact that the young star was away in New York for a while, and took time out to be a part of this event soon as he was back in the city, came as a great surprise for many.
Ranbir who has been attending to his dad Rishi Kapoor, who is undergoing a treatment in a New York hospital, looked a bit jet-lagged but excited about the event that will run from November 3-November 14.
Some of the other stars who attended the inauguration were Dia Mirza, Lara Dutta Ramesh Sippy, Nina Kulkarni, Lillette Dubey and many others.
The highlight of the first day remained the screening of Deewar that coincided with cinema legend Prithviraj Kapoor's birthday. The play was staged at Royal Opera House, where it was first staged back in 1945. For many theatre veterans this was a moment of great nostalgia. As the festival progresses there are other thoughtful moments linked to the history of Indian theatre. The staging of Naseeruddin Shah's, The Truth was coincided with Prithvi Theatre's very first performance ever -- Majma's "Udhwast Dharmshala" starring Om Puri and Naseeruddin Shah in 1978. The year 2018 on the same day showed Motley's 'The Truth.
Some of the other performances will be staged at three theaters in the city namely PRITHVI THEATRE, ROYAL OPERA HOUSE & G5A.
