TM Krishna, one of the most iconic Karnatic classical musician, vocalist, writer and social activist in India, will be in Mumbai for an extended tour. Spread over two consecutive weekends in December there will be his signature style unusual concerts, conversations and lecture demonstrations.

Amongst the highlights there will be a theatre collaboration of Karnatic classical musicians with the "Kattaikkuttu Sangam" , a group from Kanchipuram that presents the traditional movement and musical theatre form of Kattaikkuttu from Tamil Nadu - featuring musicians and actors from the age of ten to sixty and lead by the legendary playwright, director and actor P Rajagopal and co-founder of the Sangam, Hanne De Bruin. A stunning finale follows with Grammy award-winning and Padmashree, Master percussionist Vikku Vinayakram and TM Krishna and his co-musicians in one of Mumbai's most loved heritage monuments, The Afghan Church in Navy Nagar for the first time in ten years.

Speaking about the ambitious and extended tour of Mumbai over two weekends, TM Krishna says, "There's going to be a lot of music, a lot of art and a lot of drama. Our collaborations this year are pushing boundaries for everybody, for artists as well as for those watching them. We had a wonderful time with Karnatic Modern last year performing for Mumbai audiences over three consecutive days in different spaces.

December 9, 6.30pm

Venue: G5A Black Box Theatre, Mahalakshmi

A full length, intimate Carnatic classical chamber concert by the iconic Carnatic artiste of our times, TM Krishna. With Akkarai Subhalakshmion violin, Vidwan Arun Prakash on Mridangam and N.Guruprasad on ghatam. In the elegant surroundings at g5a which heightens the closeness between artiste and listeners.

December 10

Venue: G5A Foundation for Contemporary Culture, Mahalakshmi

A day-long workshop and interactive lecture demo by TM Krishna and his co-musicians on Creativity and Improvisation in Karnatic Music. With 3 interactive sessions with the audience.

December 15 at 7 pm Venue - Sakshi Gallery, Colaba

A conversation on Music, Poetry and the Body between TM Krishna and David Shulman, the internationally renowned cultural historian, Indologist, author and eminent academic. An invited audience of the city's eminent writers, scholars, painters and the arts community will engage in an interactive session with the speakers. Followed by wine and short eats. This program is presented by First Edition Arts in association with Sakshi Gallery.

December 16 at 7.30 pm

Venue: St Andrews Auditorium, Bandra West.

A first time ever collaboration between Kattaikkuttu (A traditional movement based musical theatre from Tamil Nadu) and Carnatic Classical music. In this first of its kind production, musicians and actors meet to explore what both art forms share, where they differ and how they "speak" to and with each other.

December 17 at 7 pm Venue - Afghan Church in Navy Nagar

An exquisite evening at one of Mumbai's most beautiful heritage monuments. A unique creative collaboration between Grammy Award Winning, Padma Shree and Padma Bhushan Master Percussionist, Ghatam player Vikku Vinayakram and TM Krishna and his co-musicians. This concert is the finale for the Karnatic Modern II series in Mumbai over two weekends.
